Arc 2: Zero Mission

In the year 20X5 of the Cosmic Calendar... A Galactic Federation Research Team discovered an unknown life-form on planet SR388. While they were able to successfully obtain a living sample, their research vessel was attacked by Space Pirates during their voyage home.

On board they discovered what this GF crew had just gotten their hands on whilst reading the logs: a parasitic organism with energy draining capabilities, called a Metroid. They stole this specimen and took it back to planet Zebes where they devised plans to clone and utilize this creature as a bioweapon. With an army of Metroids by their side, they envisioned conquering the entire galaxy.

The Galactic Federation did not sit by idly. They dispatched a lone bounty hunter, the infamous Samus Aran, to stop this heinous Space Pirate operation. There was no one else better cut for this job since planet Zebes was once her home…

As soon as Samus landed she wasted no time and commenced exploring the planet's dark caverns, acquiring various Chozo-created power-ups for her suit along the way as she battled past violent life-forms.

Things would soon get more complicated as the wildlife grew larger and fiercer: she faced off against the slithering Diorumu in Brinstar and later on fought the tricky Acid Worm which attempted to ambush her in Kraid's Lair. However, neither of these monsters were a match for the agile and determined Samus.

Further exploring this tricky Lair, Samus eventually stumbled upon a large space where she encountered the behemoth Space Pirate commander Kraid. He charged towards her the moment their eyes locked!

Despite the disparity in size and despite the onslaught of his brute force attacks, she managed to take down her larger foe after a grueling fight.

Increasingly violent creatures blocked her path, like the insectoid abomination Imago, but Samus overcame each and every one of them. She traveled deeper into the core of Zebes, beyond the burning hot caverns of Norfair into Ridley's Lair...

By now it was only a matter of time until she would encounter him. Waiting for her in the shadows, the Space Pirate commander Ridley ambushed Samus.

But even the violent Space Dragon fell to Samus after another epic, hard-fought battle...

=============================

With both of the Space Pirate commanders vanquished, the statues of their heads opened up and a new pathway was now accesible: the sinister area Tourian was the next area to explore for Samus. 

=============================

Dark halls decorated by wires and steel were dimly lit. As she made her way through these eerie corridors, she was attacked by something that emerged from the darkness: Metroids!! Indeed, the Space Pirates had already succeeded in replicating them! Many pirates had their life energy drained from them as they struggled to control the the parasitic organisms.

Luckily Samus was armed to the teeth at this point, with the Ice Beam giving her a great advantage: Metroids were weak to cold temperatures and thus all Samus had to do was freeze them and blow them to pieces with missiles.

=============================

Then, finally, she located and confronted the mastermind behind this Space Pirate operation: the rogue A.I. known as Mother Brain. This was her toughest fight yet with Rinkas and lasers shooting at her from various directions whilst she had to attack from a solitary platform whilst evading all these never-ending attacks... She managed the impossible however and destroyed Mother Brain!

Barely had she registered her victory or alarms started blaring throughout the base, signaling a self-destruct sequence. Samus hurriedly began her evacuation and rushed back to her ship as fast as she could!

She made it out in time and a huge explosion destroyed the interior of Tourian. Having managed to escape the Zebes compound in time, Samus breathed a sigh of relief and powered down her suit in the safety of her ship… She had successfully completed her mission...!

...Or so she thought!! A small convoy of Pirates ambushed and chased her, eventually shooting her down, destroying her ship in the crash. 

=============================

She managed to survive the crash but was left vulnerable without her Power Suit and armed with a just a flimsy emergency pistol…

=============================

Still, determined to find a way out she decided to risk it all and followed the convoy that had attacked her to a Space Pirate Mothership. There were a few close calls here and there but ultimately she succeeded in passing through the ship and in the process, ended up in  the ruins of Chozodia.

Deep inside the ruins she stumbled upon a wall she once visited with her adoptive Father Old Bird, back when she was but a mere child. Samus briefly reflected on her childhood when suddenly a Chozo Spirit materialized and began charging at her: she was put through the Ruins Test that only the worthiest of warriors could pass.

Of course, she managed to pass the Ruins Test and as a result she received the Legendary Fully Powered Suit! Samus was bathed in a brilliant light as her Power Suit evolved and unlocked previous mysterious power-ups she couldn't use. She had now reached a level of power never attained before...

Samus rampaged through Chozodia and the Mothership, terrifying the Space Pirates to the extent that they were now seeking the shadows to hide from her! Not even the tricky Pirate Commandos could stop her even though they took more of a fight than the regular ones. The door to the docking bay was closed so she was forced to find a control room of sorts.

Upon entering the control room, she was greeted by an unpleasant surprise, the Mecha-Ridley! Indeed, Ridley seemingly had a mechanoid monstrosity created in his image as a back-up weapon. The fully-powered Samus easily dispatched of this mechanical dread which -surprise, surprise- was armed with a self-destruct bomb, triggering yet another timer.

Once again, Samus rushed out quickly, blasting anything in her path that sought to slow her down. While the Space Pirates were in complete disarray, she managed to acquire a Pirate vessel in the docking bay: an Elite Pirate Commando attempted to stop her ascent but to no avail. Samus escaped while a huge explosion rocked Space Pirate Mothership, destroying it and officially ending this evil operation...

And so Samus did the impossible and completed her Zero Mission!
